CryENGINE3 Demonstration at SIGGRAPH 09!
Welcome to a MyCrysis news post regarding a recent demonstration of Crytek's CryENGINE3, which was recently announced and is now being shown to developers across the world at various conventions. Recently, Crytek appeared along with a demonstration of the engines capabilities with advanced lighting techniques; today we're showing this for you to today.
Global Illumination
In this video, two types of lighting technology is displayed. Firstly, global illumination is displayed inside the "Sponza Atrium", where light is not only being projected directly onto the surfaces but then again being reflected onto other walls inside the building. In the second scene, a Manhattan apartment, the light not only is reflected of objects and surfaces, but it also retains some of the colour of the initially hit object or surface. This can be seen embedded below, with the full sized YouTube version available. If you'd like to download the full resolution version of the demonstration, you can do so from the Crytek site here. here.
Massive Lighting
The second video shows off the latest development in massive amounts of lights in one scene. In the scene itself, 400 lights are shown, with only 300 draw calls required, meaning it reached 160 fps on a GeForce 280. This can be seen below, with the full size YouTube video available here. This can also be downloaded at full resolution from the Crytek servers here.
