Crytek and EA bring Crysis to consoles

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – September 9, 2011 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) and award-winning developer, Crytek GmbH, announced today that the critically-acclaimed Crysis® franchise will debut a new experience on Xbox LIVE® and PlayStation® Network. In October 2011, shooter fans will be able to download a modified and enhanced version of the award-winning single-player campaign from the original Crysis, remastered for console players using Crytek’s state-of-the-art CryENGINE®3 with all new lighting, effects and other visual optimizations. For just $19.99 SRP or 1600 Microsoft Points, gamers will download the most robust and exciting Xbox LIVE® and PlayStation® Network game to date.

In 2007 and again in 2011, critics around the world hailed Crysis and Crysis 2 as titles that ushered in the next-generation of gaming with jaw-dropping visuals, industry leading technology and groundbreaking sandbox gameplay, featuring the super-powerful Nanosuit. Today, the original, award-winning 2007 single-player campaign has been remastered for Xbox LIVE® and PlayStation® Network with optimized Nanosuit controls, fine-tuned combat and full stereoscopic 3D support.

“We are extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish with Crysis. We set out to create a next-generation FPS and delivered a PC experience that became a benchmark for quality – and still is for many gamers even four years later,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek. “By bringing the single-player campaign to console, we believe we are again setting a new standard for quality in downloadable gaming.”

In Crysis, gamers will travel to 2019 where a team of US scientists makes a frightening discovery on an island in the South China Sea. All contact with the team is lost when the North Korean Government quickly seals off the area. The United States responds by dispatching an elite team of Delta Force Operators to recon the situation. As tension rises between the two nations, a massive alien ship reveals itself in the middle of the island. Now with hope rapidly fading, the US and North Koreans must join forces to battle the alien menace, fighting epic battles through stunning, photorealistic tropical jungles and frozen landscapes.

i've played crysis on my pc, and i can say if anything it looks even better on console. Sorry pc gamers, looks like you're not as special as you thought, and what's with all this talk about consoles "running on vapor" or bieng "dried up" consooles(at least the ps3)can play blu ray and in case you didn't kow that's full hd. i'm just super excited to get this on ps3, and it's funny because like a week after i decided i'm going to get crysis in my pc, i hear that it's coming out on console with even better graphics! but i'm still going to get crysis warhead on my pc. i don't hate you pc gamers, but SOME of you just say stupid things, but the truth is that that the only advantage of pc are that they can be upgraded everytime a new hardware comes out, that's why pc TECHNICALLY has better graphics than console, but it's pointless because there's apperantly graphics cards better than the one i have and mine can already play battlefield 3. i think it's going to be really fun and i'm sure tons of other console gamers are really excited that we finally get to get to play crysis so just try not to ruin it for us console gamers okay?

I'm just happy it's coming to console. I don't need the Cry1 MP (though I'm sure it's a great play) when I have Cry2 MP for PS3. I fell for the overall story and any chance to play the first chapter of the game is just great.

I created this extended side-by-side video comparison of the updated Crysis 1 Xbox360 footage against 2007 Crysis on PC running very high graphical settings at 1920x1080 using 2xAA.

Would love to see Crysis 1 being re-visited for the PC too, Giving the game more weapon choices, And making it fit with the Crysis Warhead story!

You know, I have to say I'm really disappointed about this. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I've been eager for the original Crysis to hit consoles for a long time, but this is NOT how I wanted it to happen. Not at all.

I always figured if Crytek was going to bring the original Crysis to consoles, they'd do it right. In other words, they'd bring over the equivalent of the Maximum Edition.

The revamped visuals is great, but it's not on disc (you can't do Crysis justice as a download!), there's no multi-player (NO Crysis Wars!), and NO Crysis Warhead! I'm not happy about this at all.

It's okay to take out a console Crysis but it will never overtake the PC version (I mean the textures in HD).
But please tell crytec entire team to please not give up the PC, please solve the problems of multiplayer crysis 2.
    Do not leave us behind.
