Making of the DX11 Ultra Upgrade for Crysis 2

The Crysis 2 DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade

In this article, directly from the Crytek Principal R&D Graphics Engineer, Tiago Sousa, you can get more information on exactly how we went about re-creating Crysis 2 in DX11.  See below for a small quote from the article:

"With Crysis 2 being our first multi-platform game, our main focus was to ensure a successful delivery on all supported platforms. Unfortunately, such constraint didn’t allow us to concentrate on DirectX 11 with the level of commitment that is to be expected from a Crytek release.

This is the reason why it was decided to give the R&D team sufficient time and effort after the release of Crysis 2. The “DX11 Ultra Upgrade” is the result of this work: it is a free visual upgrade add-on introducing DirectX 11 support, as well as a wealth of graphical improvements and performance optimizations for both DX11 and DX9 API’s."

Too little too late; following in the footsteps of LucasArts you guys built your popularity and fanbase (and bank account) on the PC platform only to screw them over.

On top of a console port that is Crysis 2, with it's diminished graphics, horribly un-customizable settings and frequent AI problems; it doesn't even live up to the excitement of the first game, on top of building multi-player to basically a Call of Duty rehash with Nano suites.

It's going to take a lot more than a graphics pack released four moths after release to win back your disheartened PC fans Crytek, not impossible, but unlikely.

^that. exactly. yes i am a PC purist, yes i am a graphics whore, yes i love Sci-fi, yes i like this game, but it will and can never be as good as Crysis 1 was.

    oh btw, this: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/62/crysis22011070915305364.jpg/

nice try, but it didn't work... i do still appreciate the time that was put into this though, it makes me doubt Crytek, instead of just dropping it :)

I can give you a hundred places in Crysis 1 that looks horrible.

great upgrade if you compare in graphics but i can give a guarantee that the upgrade dosent requires 768 mb minimum dedicated graphics ram.

PS3/360 hardware doesn't support DX11 so you'll have to wait until PS4/Xbox720 for that.

Great job guys. I don't see why some people continue to think of this game as a console port. This game plays really well, runs much better than the previous games and at the same time looks better. The reason it runs better is probably because of the smaller environment, but I still think it looks a lot better.

Everything looks much smoother and not all pixelated on the edges. The leaves look more realistic too.

Maybe because it is a port, it feels and looks like a port. If it wasn't a port there would be no need for a DX11 patch and high res texture patch, because it would have already been built around the DX11 api and have support for DX10.
And the demo would not have been released with "push start" on the splash screen either. I don't know where the hell you have been in the last 20 years of pc gaming.

Obviously the only games you've ever played have been console ports since you can't spot the difference.

@Feed - probably change the browser you're using, it does that to me on Google Chrome but not IE, which is a pain, but at least i can get around it.

Could someone explain this to me? So this is my first account I made with Crysis. I go to sign in and then when i'm signed in, I want to go to the forums to write a question. When I go at the forums and want to write a topic they say this "You must sign in at the top of the page in order to use the forums" and I am signed in. Also it says that i'm signed in at every other area but forums.

Instead of coming out with new(broken)content how about fixing what everybody has reported not working.

    It doesn't work.
I can't turn dx 11 on in options, same thing with hi-def textures.
    And sandbox doesn't install also.
    Good job crytek.

Maybe your graphic car doesn't support DX 11... omg
