credit to Vert-X for leaking the Crysis 3 story line. +1

Jungle-of-the-mind is still a Jungle, and this one also requires very few trees to render. Slap on a cutscene with Prophet, and it works!

Code:
Crytek are working at pushing the boundaries of what current technology can bring, including our focus on DX11 which will be released shortly as an update for Crysis 2, and we believe this work, added to our estimations of what the new hardware will provide, set up CryENGINE as a next generation engine for all consoles.

Yep, both Epic and Crytek are releasing their DX11 stuff for the next Xbox to show what it can do. Crytek don't care for the PC anymore, nether do Epic. PS3 does OpenGL anyway.

We can kiss goodbye to a game like Crysis 1 ever being created, PC games are pass me down console ports most of the time.

Oh noes, thats the reason for directx11. :/ epic sad face. Xbox and DirectX are literally evil, if you watch the interview with Microsoft person explaining what the names stand for eg nuking the gaming world and Sony. Though Microsoft denied this.

Crytek stated that they dont know about the next Xbox being capable of DX11.
So, no.

LOL, Epic don't even do PC games anymore and the Unreal Engine 3 is a crossplaform engine, it's not for purely the PC and their new DX11 version will take time because it's still in beta.

The next Xbox will be DX11, there is no other logical graphics API it can be and developers like Crytek and Epic are getting ready for it. There is no way they're making their engines DX11 for the PC only, no way.

1. There is no sign of DX12.

2. Microsoft will only use DirectX for their console.

3. Microsoft must be crazy to keep their next gen Xbox DX9, so not going to happen.

4. Next gen PS3 will probably stay OpenGL and go OpenGL 4.0.

5. DirectX 11 will probably be the DX9 and stay around for a long time.

6. DirectX 10 is a waste of time and should be skipped.

Microsoft has the power to lead the way because they own the graphics API for the PC(Windows) and Xbox, so it can only lead to directX 11 being the next choice.

Assuming next gen consoles will pull of graphics like the 3DMark 11 Benchmark @ 30 FPS @ native 1920x1080, unless display prices come falling down to make 2560x1600 affordable, will there even be an advantage to PC gaming anymore?

We can probably assume Microsoft will add dedicated servers into Live, just like Sony does with first party exclusives, and the PS4 at least will be based on some higher end 28-nm nVidia Kepler variant card, with sufficient RAM (4+ GB). (**** knows what Microsoft will do with the XBOX.)

Then even as PCs get higher end graphics cards, the only new stuff I can see coming are marginally improved tesselation and maybe raytracing in PC games.

However, logic would tell us that raytracing will be the focus of nVidia's next gen GPU line anyway, so even that..would only be a marginal improvement on PC (ie...not noticable)

Maybe consoles will only get 4X AA vs. unlimited on PC.

But otherwise the only thing I can really think of is Keyboard + mouse.

And yes @ Wrath the next gen XBOX will probably use DirectX 11 (maybe an incremental improvement called 11.1), and the PS4 will use OpenGL 4.1, or maybe 5.0 if it is available by then.

But I'm pretty sure next gen consoles will follow the same trend they did this genertion.

They will start at 28nm, be $500 power hungry, overheating bricks that are as good as a top end gaming PC. Then over 3-4 years they will shrink to 14nm dies and have power consumption down to under 100 Watts.

We don't exactly know the specs of Kepler yet, but we can probably guess it will destroy the current 40nm GTX 580. 768 CUDA Cores anyone? (Or let's be hopeful and ask for 1024 :D)
