Well unfortunately I'll be passing on Crysis and Crysis Warhead as there seems to be no version without securom.. so I can't see for myself.

Crysis 2 Maximum on Steam lacks that sort of third-party DRM so it's the one I purchased.

I personally think it looks pretty great, but I've heard lots of complaints about it being more of a console port and looking inferior to the first Crysis.

All the complaints I read on it where around when Crysis 2 was first released.

Now that the game has high res textures and DX11, is it still considered to not look as good as Crysis or did those two things bring it up to a similar level?

It's more of the art direction. Crysis 2 looks more unrealistic but the colours are more vivid. And the lighting effects and light rays are very unrealistic in Crysis 2 but they look pretty.
Plus, Crysis 2 has horrible textures and the high-res texture pack does little to help.

You could get some graphic mods like the Maldoh mod. It makes the game look even better and shows that there's so much more potential in this engine.

Well obviously as an upgrade to CryEngine 2, CE3 is more advanced and capable of better graphics, it's just the way you use it that counts

If you've got a decent PC setup I still highly recommend playing through Crysis and Crysis:Warhead. As for SecuRom, buy the game (support Crytek) and then feel free to torrent the game - you paid for it, you should be able to play it whenever and however you want, you're allowed to torrent it.

That's how you deal with stupid DRM.

But yeah, definitely play through the original Crysis series. The graphics are mind-blowing. Whether they're better than Crysis 2's graphics is completely up to opinion since both engines handle things differently.

Crysis/Warhead had superb textures, huge view distances, open-world gameplay, more complex suit features, beautiful tropical forests and beaches, etc.

Crysis 2 is far more linear and the view distances are far less with buildings everywhere, but it really EXCELS at lighting and shading, far better than the original Crysis...but it didn't make the most of the engine. Be sure to run something like MaLDo's Black Ice texture pack + DX11, otherwise you're pretty much looking at pathetic console-optimized textures.

You can always get EA support to make the game playable through Origin. You can get around DRM that way.

Also, The graphics in Crysis and Warhead make for more immersive gameplay than Crysis 2.

Thanks all for the input :D
I'll again look into all options for playing the first two games since I think I'm missing out. XD

unfortunately I haven't gotten to see much light rays or anything in Crysis 2. I'm usually covered by ruined buildings :(

I do like some of the island maps in multiplayer though.

I honestly considered this but I was worried about even torrent downloads still having remains of Securom left in there. I've heard awful things about it screwing up drives and whatnot which is why I haven't tried :D :D
But I would really like to play through them

That was what was appealing to me the most about the first game. Not so much graphic quality, but the actual environments. Crysis 2 is just a destroyed city. It's rather dull. I'd much much rather run around in forests and beaches.

I'll check out Maldo's mod, thanks :D

Edit: Just went for it and am playing Crysis 1 now.
So far I like it much much better than Crysis 2.
Being on this beautiful island with the forests and beaches is so much better than being in some ruined city. And I like the suit moves much more too.

I can't say I've noticed an improvement with the graphic quality really though. but I guess it's hard to compare such different environments. .-.

They really should just remove the DRM on Crysis and Warhead since Crysis 2 Maximum doesn't have any..

If you have problem with graphics then you should check your VGA card.Check whether it is Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 or Ati Radeon HD 4870. Also most recommended os version to play that game is Windows 7 (32 bit).
