Post subject: Malware and the Steam Crysis bundle Posted: 07 24, 2012 /08:59 |

Booted Steam up, downloaded the pack, started playing with no problems. Next time I booted Steam up, avast! tells me it's discovered malware, my screen cuts out. I try reconnecting the HDMI cable, hitting the top of the monitor, shouting a few choice expletives. Nothing works. Shut the computer off manually and wonder how f***ed I am.
Next day I try connecting via the VGA input, which previously didn't work, as it was part of the integrated motherboard graphics and not the dedicated graphics card. Works fine, suggesting my brand new GTX 680 is now a highly expensive and frankly not very effective paperweight. Screen is looking weird and avast! is telling me to run a boot scan. I agree and my monitor starts displaying a BIOS-esque list of files within C:\Program Files\Steam which are either malware or corrupted. One of them is the Steam executable itself and the rest are Crysis game files (texture pack ZIPs, et cetera). I don't see any problem files from any of my other games.
What the hell? Is anybody else getting anything like this? Is avast! going crazy, or has Steam or Crytek been compromised?

Weird, one of my friends on Battlelog complained about a Malware found in Steam? Coincidence? I don't think so... I seriously doubt, there is a real virus in the Steam folder. Probably false detections!

I'm almost certain Securom is conflicting with Avast. It can do that with all sorts of things.
I did a few Google searches on Avast and Securom and saw posts by people with similar issues.
Your best bet is probably disabling it while you play the Crysis games and uninstalling + removing Securom (GOOD LUCK) when you're done.

This seems strange to me. Try this maybe:
1. Update Avast and see if it works then 2. Download a different Anti Virus software (Avira, Luke filewalker, etc), see what it says 3. Do a clean unistallation of your graphics driver. Use a program like Driver Cleaner Pro or so. Install your driver again (try it with different drivers) 4. If your sure there is no malware make steam an exception (guess that works with Avast) 5. Reinstall avast
Hope that helps!
