I miss the real Crysis veterans and the old MyCrysis. I assume 11/06/2010 is when the new site went up you can tell by the join date of people who's all been here for a while. ;)

I assume 11/06/2010 is when the new site went up you can tell by the join date of people who's all been here for a while. ;) Yes, and if you remember correctly they lied and said first joiners would get access to the Crysis 2 beta. The old MyCrysis had a red-theme with the nanosuit-hexagonals and shall we say... a much more educated community. It was better in a lot of ways. In preparation for Crysis 2, the new MyCrysis opened with of course, what we have today. You'd be hard-pressed to find any of the old Crysis members still here. The vast majority left this site when the newcomers came, and left the franchise after being disappointed by Crysis 2. This is why it makes me sad to see these guys get called community-veterans when they are not in terms of the franchise. The real veterans are the guys that created anti-cheat better than Punkbuster, got beta-key invites by Crytek for running amazing fansites, and fought for this franchise when they saw the path it was taking. http://www.incrysis.com , by far the largest fansite for the Crysis franchise, is now being sold. Why? Because the site became a ghost-town after all of members gave up on Crytek and Crysis 2. The true veterans, sadly, are no longer here. The overall Crysis community is a shell of what it once was. And don't even get me started on Crymod..

Well, that's how all community's work! Newcomers will always come and some people will leave... That's how it works. Sadly, sometimes it's worse, but sometimes it isn't!

Yes, that is true. However, I have never seen it happen with such a scale as it has with the Crysis franchise.
When the biggest Crysis franchise fansite is being sold because all of the Crysis fans left it after Crysis 2 (and seeing Crysis 3 will be more of the same), you know things are bad. The community is a shell of what it once was.
A good franchise manages to keep its players from sequel to sequel. This game however, has done the exact opposite.

Wothwhile post(s), Talon95! My join date here was when I pre-ordered Crysis 2 about a week before release; hardly a franchise veteran. And, despite all that's passed since, I remain heavily invested in this game because it's fun. I expect I'll fire it up in some form or another all the way up to the release of C3, and will likely run C2 servers for as long as I can fill 'em.
I see the creation of the "veteran" positions and the addition of a community-focused manager (Welcome Cry-Pete!) as a marker: A possibly important step in paving the way for what I hope is a wildly successful Crysis 3 multiplayer. Much more is needed -- the thing is I think much more is coming. Time will tell. Meanwhile I'll be plugging away, contributing what little I am able.
I really enjoyed your post: you describe an exciting time. Still, rather than a travesty, I have to see all of this as an opportunity for those who remain(!). It is precisely that "call to the past", with emphasis on what worked, that we need plenty of, imo.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the Community Veteran idea. It was something that was long overdue imo, and I'd rather somebody have a position like that than nobody. If Crysis 2 vets are Crytek's ideal of a community veteran then so be it. ;)
Just from a personal level it makes me disappointed to remember that the veterans that had been with this company and franchise from Far Cry up to Crysis 2's release are no longer here. They gave up on Crytek long ago. Crytek has no choice but to move forward and try to attract new customers I guess.

To be honest, Crysis 2's multiplayer is much, MUCH better than the extremely disappointing borefest that is its singleplayer, but wouldn't you rather have a higher health pool, greater mobility (Maximum Speed, high speed lateral strafing for dodging) and the ability to sprint while taking damage so that fights last a little longer and everyone has a chance to fight back? Fixing Crysis 2 is pretty simple IMO, and none of the things i've said are in the C3 trailers...
