I really didn't know where to put this so admins move it but please don't delete.
If anyone can help me.
For the past 5 years i've been stuck on why my games lag so terribly even with high end hardware.
The problem i realised is that whenever i decrease window size of a game my fps goes up alot.
so if i decrease the screen size to about 35 percent of the screen on battlefield 3 i get 60 fps max (dont know why no more) if i enlarge to full screen i get around 10 fps.
crysis battlefield far cry unigine you name it.Its so bad its unplayable!
I WILL GIVE WHOEVER FIXES THIS one of my gtx 295's for free. no bull.

I have a feeling it might be a software problem, I know this might sound a bit extreme but have you tried totally reinstalling Windows?
Or at least try a clean reboot and see if it fixes the problem

Do you realise that by decreasing your resolution your gpu has to do much less work? This is why when you increase the resolution your frames will drop. 10 fps from 60 is a big drop but so is 35% to 100%.

What setup do you have, is there and overclocking? The gpu could be bottlenecked by your CPU/mobo, when it's trying to run at higher loads

I got an i7 965 cpu, 12 gb ram, ocz vertex ssd and asus mars 2 gpu.

With these specs i should be able to run games on max, but when increasing the screen size (not resolution) the frames drop HEAVY.
Its definetly a software issue.
I will give someone who fixes this a free gpu as i dont need them (have 2 gtx 295s)

OP: Disable MultiGPU in the display driver, use Single GPU mode.

NEVER buy anything other than a SingleGPU card ever again. Save big bucks and a LOT of trouble.

Sincerely: A former GTX295 sufferer.

EDIT: BTW, thanks for the GPU offer but there's no need. Sell it ;)

In fairness, this is a pretty extreme response, and not totally correct. Much of the time you can beat the performance of an expensive high end card by buying two cards, the sum of which is still less than the cost of the more expensive one.

Sure, some games suffer issues, and that is something you have to accept as a possibility when using crossfire/SLI, but usually it's neither particularly expensive, or a lot of trouble.

"Much of the time" means you're not getting bang for bour buck in some games: God have mercy on your soul if it happens to be your favorite one.

Also, there's the issue of power consumption, the issue of microstuttering (HORRIBLE for competition or serious gaming: Trust me, I could NEVER go back to my GTX295)...

However much you can save in PSU, spend in a similarly powerful singleGPU and be blissful in the knowledge that "stuff will work".

EDIT: I will admit though, that these problems will probably be adressed in the future, as MultiGPU is probably the way to go technology-wise.

Most of the problems it suffers now is because devs generally don't care so much about it, if at all.

MGPU technology has gone a LONG way since the early days of SLi, but it's still definitely not worth it in my book, especially if you have issues with microstuttering. God, the microstuttering.

If this is definitely software issue what happens when you play with 1 gpu? Do you see a perfomace loss or gain? With crossfire/sli disabled.
