Post subject: Crytek 3 launch - How to do it right

I am eagerly awaiting Crysis 3. However, my excitement is tempered somewhat by bad memories from the Crysis 2 launch

Crytek, here is some free consumer feedback (you don't even have to ask for me to fill out a survey!) on things that need to occur DAY 1 to avoid a complete crapstorm:

DX11 out of the box.
No "we'll patch it 3 months after the fact" bull. With Crysis 2, you advertised a beautiful game engine and then took a quarter year to enable its most advanced features. In the meantime, players heard basically no information from EA or Crytek as to whether there would even BE an update. Don't do that this time! I hear that the game will in fact have DX11 upon release, but after last time around I am extremely wary. I'll believe it when I see it.

Digital distribution done properly.
If you can't get the game on Steam for whatever reason and have to use Origin, say so outright BEFORE LAUNCH. If you are launching on both major distribution platforms, say so from the start to avoid confusion. You can't sell something if people don't know where to buy it. I would greatly prefer Steam, myself. But if EA says it will be on Origin or nothing, at least give customers the courtesy of knowing beforehand.

Launch with a story that actually has continuity.
I have to go buy 6 comic books to fill in crucial plot details from the events of Crysis 2 to Crysis 3, I will literally pull my hair out, defecate on the comic books after I read them, cover the whole mess with my pulled out hair, and light it on fire in the street, tweeting pictures the whole time. If you release comic books, they should add to the story, not be released as a substitute for putting a good plot in the game you are releasing.

I love the Crysis series, and I will absolutely get Crysis 3 day one, but if I have to experience what I went through with the Crysis 2 launch I will stop supporting future Crytek games.

Actually, the first thing PC users noticed was the "Press START to continue" greeting when they launched C2.

Afterwards it was Aim-assist, then DX11. Then lacking advanced graphics options then it was the graphics.

The game is DX11 only, so...

Everyone already knows origin will be necessary.

Just looked at minimum system requirements for the game (something I rarely do anymore since so many PC games are either DX9 or DX10 minimum, I don't even bother most of the time). It is DX11 only on PC. Still, I almost don't believe it. I mean, I know it's got to be correct, but the bad memories from Crysis 2's launch are hard to shake.

Oh jeez, I had forgotten about so much of that crap. Or rather, I must have blocked it out because it was so incredibly awful. Part of me wonders how the company that made Far Cry and Crysis could suddenly pull a 180 and have essentially NO options available, but as long as they have fixed their problems I'm willing to let it go.

Crysis 3 will be DX11 exclusive. Graphics and graphical opttions are probably the greatest improvement from Crysis 2.

The game won't be on Steam, requires Origin.

The story looks to be a huge improvement over Crysis 2, but obviously I can't tell you the level of continuity it'll have. Hopefully they can plug the many gaping plot holes.

I'm going to add this, do not and I repeat do NOT lock game modes to a specific level. This Absolutely killed every other game mode past Crash Site on Crysis 2. People had to be like level 35 before they could play Extraction. All these modes need to be available for play no later than Level 5.
