PostPosted: 09 08, 2012 /09:56

I have one PC on my LAN running Crysis 2 via Steam, the other via Origin after a recent bargin basement Amazon purchase.

The second license was to allow my son and I to play together online... but the second of us to attemept connection to any game server is booted off the server before entering the game. I've been researching online for a couple of days, and have so far have:

- added net_lobby_gamespy_online_port = 64101 command into one machine's config, and
- port forwarded port 64100 to one PC and 64101 to the second (the one with the port adjustment) - and confirmed in firewall logs that comms is arriving on the adjusted port.

... I dunno where to go from here... do I need to chat to Amazon about refund, or is there something I'm missing here... I'm gonna be pretty disappointed if I can't work around this...

thanks for any advice.

So if I get this right, you have one copy from amazon and one copy from steam and I'm guessing you have two different cd keys, but if not, you won't be able to play on the same server with the same key. The error message after booted out of a server would be appreciated.

Update: Clarification - it normally dumps the second to arrive in the first screen after the "Join". A couple of times its reached the second screen... where you choose the operative type before being dropped into the arena, but that is rare...
---

Thanks for the reply. Correct re keys. 2 purchases, 2 keys.

The message is "ATTENTION <return> The connection to your session has been lost" and usually appears after the 'Join Game" selection, and during the initial screen that appears that counts down the 30secs to the game. Although if there is a longer delay in the connection sequence, it can drop me out to that 'connection dropped' dialog even before completing the initial connection... if this happens the message is sometimes changed to "ATTENTION <return> Connection to host failed"...

The same problem occurs if I manually join the same server...

BTW: Different server while both players are online is no problem.

<sigh>

Now if that's the case, try joining an empty server and see what happens there. The connection to your session has been lost is a new problem after gamespy made a maintenance, you cannot really do nothing about it.

Connection to your host failed is a frequent error. Sometimes the server just "dies" and you get that message, sometimes when trying to make a squad it appears etc.

What kind of connection do you have? Is it shared with your computer or shared with a router?

Have joined an empty server. Same result - kicks me.

Can you explain what you mean by gamespy maintenance? Connection is shared through a router....

thx again.

Recently gamespy had a maintenace, it screwed up the whole system. Drops out players mid-session and signs them out randomly. They are already "working" on it, we helped them out with some log files, but still no anwser from them on the situation.

Further on, open up these ports in the router:

TCP Ports: 6667, 29900, 29901, 28910, 80
UDP Ports: 27900, 27901, 29910, 64100

I have a friend who has two copies of the game and usually play with his cousin on the same network and it works for them flawlessly.
If the problem still occours you'll just have to wait for a more experienced forum member on this.

Thx. Opening up the other ports is (I think?) not an option, because they are not inbound port assignments; anyhow, if they were inbound I would need to direct them to one machine or the other - unlike the 'game' port which I can reassign on each machine and therefore route correctly through my LAN, these ports are not documented as reassignable?

SOLVED!

Thx for motivating me to keep at this..

For anyone reading this who has been searching as I had, here is the (bizzare!) solution that worked:

As I noted in the op, I have two license keys, one purchased through Steam, the other Origin. The Steam and Origin installs did NOT play nice in multiplayer. However, I decide to uninstall the Steam installation of Crysis 2 and replace it with the Origin installation instead, and then use the Steam key during the load. The key took, without an issue, and now multiplayer access to the same server across both machines on my LAN *works*.

And that's without even adjusting the port settings as noted above (the firewall reports both boxes transmitting on the same default port 64100!
