So,

I'm gonna upgrade my gaming experience within the next 2months.
I already have my eyes set on a mouse - Cyborg Rat 3 but the keyboard... still not sure.
I'm drawn towards those with the LCD displays.

Go mechanical, you wont look back. i upgraded from a logitech to a razer black widow ultimate, drivers are way better, software is better, it just feels so much more solid, than logitech keyboard ever did, however i still have yet to find a mouse i like better than my logitech g700, and my logitech g930 headset is pretty darn good. its basically what you like and your personal preference, but dont get sucked in to the whole lcd screen on the keyboard gimmick crap that you wont ever use.

You don't really need a gaming keyboard to be really pro, I have a dell keyboard and still rock it out with it. =D

I got the Cyborg R.A.T. 5, Razer Blackwidow mechanical keyboard and Logitech G930 headset and am more than satisfied with them.

Then again, at my age, it doesn't take much to satisfy me :D

If you are interested in mechanical keyboards for FPS gaming, I would recommend a linear switch (black or red). The easiest to find is a steelseries 6GV2 (black). Excellent build quality, the switches are really nice and not too far off from a rubber dome, therefore providing an easy transition. I find that the black widow switches (blue cherry) are not as good for FPS gaming. I explained why in this post (bottom of page):

Also, razer products are lower quality and prone to breakage (in my humble opinion),

Look into other brands like Filco, Leopold, Das, Steelseries, etc.

Here is a link to the 6Gv2:

I had a G19, but it was only good for MMOs and casual FPS gaming.

Mechanical keyboards ftw for shooters, I got the razer BlackWidow because it was cheap. It's not a great mechanical keyboard, but it shoots the g19 down big-time.

The logitech keyboards are mostly for-show for the young kids that don't know anything. I don't recommend spending money on those.

Hmm... I don't know. I have Steelseries 7G and I wouldn't go for another keyboard anymore, but in respect to FPS I don't see that much benefit in compare to classic membrane keyboards. However, when I compare how much difference it made to my StarCraft 2 experience and how much I improved in relatively very short time... that was huge! (I had Razer Tarantula before).

If you ask me, the type of keyboard you need really depends on what you're planning to do with it. If the keyboard is meant just for FPS, then even membrane keyboard might be perfectly sufficient. If you want to use your keyboard also on the type of games where your APM means everything, definitely go for mechanical one.

I use a G510 gmaing keyboard and a G700 gaming mouse, i love to logitech series of gaming gear, and the LCD display on the G510 is really cool, and helpfull, with informtaion about certain games that are compatible, Eg. WOW, its shows your damage, defense ect, and in many FPS shows you K/D raio, this can be really helpfull in situation were you do not have time.
