Relax. They help. Try again and ask for a new CD key. If they ask for information so they can confirm your original copy, give them!
Just make sure, you use the right channel!

Yes, they help.

Banging your head against a wall, that's the kind of help they offer.

On all 3 occasions my experience with their customer support has pretty much been about arguing, beating around the bush, avoiding the problem and refusing to genuinely help me out. OP said it right in his first sentence, it's like talking to a robot.

Well you can argue personal experiences all you like....or you can just see the bigger picture and Google the fact that EA is universally hated, their customer support is universally hated.

Also it sounds like they've already outsourcing some customer support to India, judging by the rep name and his english.

It sounds like OP is experiencing what I experienced with Battlefield 3 Limited Edition, i.e. given a fake serial code with a ripped copy of the game, boxed to look like the real thing.

The most OP can do at this point is take a photo of his receipt (or proof of digital purchase / transaction code), tag it along with a photo of his game disc/packaging, and send all that to EA in a single email.

Also make sure you threaten to sue them for false advertising/scam/whatever, whenever they hear that they become extremely happy and *may* become more inclined to give a **** (no guarantees, this is EA).

edit: this comic sums it up. Replace "Mass Effect" with "Crysis 2" (or any EA game) and everything will make sense:

This is confusing-- If you were able to redeem and download via Origin then it is a valid key... You should at least be able to get in to the singleplayer. Can you clarify when specifically the "activation please" message is coming up and also quote the exact message?

Well, I helped out a friend in case of activations. He used up all 5 of them, so I helped him to create a ticket on the EA support page. The ticket was created, but there were no response, after a few, we tried it again, sent another ticket and at the same time I saw there's a live-chat avaible. I talked to the support guy, but yeah, they are so robot-like people. I asked kindly for new activations, but he said it's not possible. So we gave up and my friend was about to buy a new copy of C2, but blam, he received a message, replying on the ticket and he received 10 activations.

All you have to do is ask for activations, not a new cd key. No publisher will give you new cd key when you hit the limit of your activations, they'll just activate the product again with a new ammount of activations. After you sent your ticket, wait 1-2 weeks, they'll get back to you.
I guess live-chat support is for total newbies, like "OMG I bought this game but I cannot install it... HEEEEELP!!!!"

I hope I could help you and good luck with it. :)
