Post subject: 2 Ways to bring back the feeling of Crysis 1
PostPosted: 08 02, 2012 /05:16

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to make a thread containing my theory about 2 relatively simple ways to bring back the Crysis feeling that so many have been nostalgic about. With that said, I will also post some of my ideas about other things that can be changed, but even if they are not they won't make or break the game. Without further ado, here's the 2 main things I believe need to be in Crysis 3.

1: Speed Mode
Crysis 1 claimed to make you faster, stronger, and an overall better and more effective soldier. It did this, and quite impressively. Whether you were jumping onto buildings, cloaking through enemy command posts, tanking through bases in armor or simply skipping everything and booking it, the suit gave you options. With the 4 modes, and the numerous angles and sides you could approach a situation, you had A LOT of choices. In Crysis 2, I feel these choices were limited due to the streamlining of the suit. You could either tank through in armor, fine, cloak around, alright, or....nothing. Those were your two options. Power mode should have been the combined speed/strength mode like we saw in Crysis for consoles, but instead we basically recieved strength mode. We weren't fast, at all. We had the strength and everything, jumping like grasshoppers all over the place, but we saw none of the speed that made Crysis so unique. So, my simple suggestion is for Crytek to either give us back a speed mode, or simply increase our speed in Power mode, so we can have the same fun zipping along the maps. I don't mind if we get a fast energy drain on the speed, so long as it is fast, I mean it did this in Crysis 1 and no one seemed to mind.

As such, a speed mode will give us the same options that we had in Crysis 1, that we knew and loved.

2: Big maps (Power Struggle big maps)
I realize this might not seem like such a big issue to some of you readers, but you must realize what an impact these massive maps had on Crysis 1's identity. Rather than fit into the stereotypical shooter style of tiny maps where everyone gunned down everyone within seconds, Crytek gave us bases, bunkers, war factories and crash sites to capture and maintain so that we could achieve our eventual victory. Now this isn't saying all the maps were like this, as there were some smaller, more classic shooter styled Instant Action maps, but as a whole Crysis 1's Multiplayer is remembered for Power Struggle on Mesa. Just imagine, a gigantic map like Mesa, but not only large horizontally, but having Crysis 2's verticallity as well! (Huge skyscraper battles anyone?) I understand that Crytek wants to make beautiful maps and such, but think back to Mesa. It was pretty low on the details, its main details being occasional grass, roads and some bases and bunkers and such. NO ONE COMPLAINED about it! We loved this massive map that required us to use our brains and tactics rather than our reflexes. Sure, reflexes helped in some close encounters, but the true victor was always the one who prioritized and thought his every move through. This kind of tactical gameplay also individualized Crysis's identity because, as I keep saying, it focused on your tactics and brain rather than the speed of your trigger finger.

(People who didn't understand what I meant, I meant Power Struggle and Big maps as one unit, so if we got big maps we would also need Power Struggle, because TIA on huge maps would be just stupid...)

That being said, if the only 2 things that Crysis 3 changed were these 2, they would have an AWESOME game on their hands that people would crawl over each other to get. I will still buy the game and no doubt enjoy it, but these elements will satisfy the nostalgia in all of us that begs for Crysis 1's options, speed and openness combined with Crysis 2's verticallity and pretty, thoughtful map design.

I don't try to speak for the community, as everyone has their own wants, but I am reasonably sure that these 2 elements are the only necessary changes to return the Crysis 1 feeling to Crysis 3.

Some other things that are OPTIONAL in my opinion, meaning it'd be nice if they changed too but I'm mainly concerned about the above 2:
-Bug fixes, testing of all weapon/attachment combinations/perks to make sure nothing gives bonuses it should not
-Fixing of latency issues, such as orbital lag, or connection between players where 1 person seems to soak up bullets like a sponge from one end, and then 2 shots the person attacking
-Armor mode should drain all energy first, then health
-A health bar would be nice
-No ADS while jumping...at the very least make it a lot less stable than it is now. Just try holding a gun's sights straight while jumping with a real gun, sir.
-Agreeing with Rukumouru, if you are shot you should still be able to sprint and move fast, not nearly immobilized after being grazed by 1 round.
-Make a default sprint that consumes no energy. I don't even see why Crysis 2's sprint reduces energy, it's not the suit doing work, it's the guy inside changing to a light jog IMO.
-Again, from Rukumouru, laser's need fixing. If I compare the laser dot on my hammer to just the normal reticule, the laser is far left and up from the reticule. I don't want to have a cornershot pistol thanks! Crysis 1's lasers were beautiful!
-Modifying weapons in mutliplayer. Not crucial, I don't feel Crysis 2 suffered because of this but it'd be nice to either slap an assault scope on my SCAR to long range, or a Reflex Sight for those in your face moments.
-Make hipfire accurate again (thanks SUNNY LEGUNA) In Crysis we saw accurate hipfire that became even more accurate with lasers, and this allowed people the option of using ADS or simply firing from the hip. In C2 ADS became a requirement unless you used shotguns, because the spread became huge, and lasers hardly helped! And another thing I found odd, my Jackal seemed to have a smaller spread than a SCAR...that makes no sense to me...
-Higher health (Rukumouru again) in MP, because no one should be able to die from 3 bullets in a nanosuit! Come on man this is CRYSIS!

Well, if you have anything to add or think my 2 "necessities" aren't necessary, please leave a comment! Please don't rage or argue, simply calmly state your agreement/disagreement.

TL;DR: Bigger maps, a fast speed mode.

Thank you for reading!

My 2 necessities would be speed mode and C1 hip fire. But big maps would be a close 3rd.

The problem (for the devs) with a speed mode, it seems is that having a seperate speed mode means you can't run at speed while cloaked. Doing everything while cloaked, or suit "multi-tasking" as they call it, somehow became important for them while making C2.

C1 suit modes were more satisfying to flick through on the fly, and had a deeper more tactical application than C2. eg faster reloading in speed, less recoil in strength, and required a far more selective use of cloak

Yeah, I can see why hip fire would be another thing required. Updated the list and added that.

I mean, in Crysis 2 our reticules were gigantic making hipfire impossible except for the shotguns...in Crysis 1 all of the guns had a small reticule that allowed us to be precise from the hip, and ADS became a thing to use when you could afford to stay still and be even more precise. Then lasers made us EVEN MORE accurate...whereas lasers in C2 made us still shoot all over the place, and still had roughly the same spread as without one...

I'd still say big maps/power struggle are my priority over the hipfire, simply because it sets the game apart, focusing on tactics rather than trigger finger speed. I'd be dissatisfied if they fixed speed mode and hipfire, but still left these tiny TIA maps that resemble the CoD games. I say again, this is CRYSIS!

There's many problems than detract Crysis from Crysis 2, the first one is the story and the universe it's set in, and the second one is the gameplay, now it's all about "action bubbles" instead of true sandbox levels with real liberty.

At least it seems C3 is a step forward from Crysis 2

Crysis 1 --> Crysis 2: 1 step forward, 10 back
Crysis 2 --> Crysis 3: 1 step forward

I see what Crytek did here.
Still, I think Crysis isn't Crysis without speed mode.
When I play Crysis 1 today I think, it's still the best game :D

That's the best "nutshell" description of the series I've seen, nicely done.

Sure, C3 is looking like it will be better than C2 at this stage, but it's still just building off C2.

Why can't they build off C1!!!!!!!
