Crysis 2 - Maximum Edition.

Just purchased it today (via Steam) - and it crashes all the time on loading screens - I can't get past the start cinematic just after Alcatraz gets shot by the alien craft under the water, then cuts to a loading screen, gets about 75% of the way and I get a black screen; I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get past it and everything crashes with Crysis (Steam, any other open application at the time; firefox). I start a new campaign and I get a bit further - again crashing on loading screens. I disable DX11, reduce the GFX level - still crashes. I uninstall the game, re-install - still crashes.

i7-950 / 6GB / HD6950 (Latest Drivers) / Win7 x64 (Up to date) / Sophos AV (Steam+Game directory excluded)

My PC works perfectly well at full Gfx; 2560x1440 with any other game (CSS, D3, MW2, MW3, Crysis 1, L4D etc...) - not a single issue, very smooth. What is wrong with this one? How do I fix this? I see HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of posts across the net of Crysis 2 being unstable and crashing - no one seems to know how to fix it. If I can't play this, then I want a refund.

Downclock your CPU. .2-.3 ghz will usually do the trick. The game seems to punish tight RAM timings, too. Others may also recommend upping GPU voltage.

It is vexing when everything else will run. It has been extensively posted about here... The fix is in hardware, not drivers, etc.

Thanks Chance - That's the most concise explanation I've seen yet.

Will give it a shot later today.

This game does seem to push GPU temps extremely high (saw 95c once) and demand me to max out my voltage to get a 900/2100mhz OC artifact-free @ 1.150v. Pretty nuts :S
What are your PC specs? Also have you tried reinstalling GPU drivers? I heard the latest batch of nvidia drivers are a bit shaky, not sure about AMD ones.

Each system is different too. I run tight Ram timings on mine. 6-8-6-22-1t @ 1800Mhz with no problem. GPU's running at a cool 45C.
Really you need to tweak and fiddle until you find the sweet spot. It WILL be there :).

Specs are:
* XFX 6950 xXx Edition
* 6GB OCZ DDR-1600
* i7-950

Tried to underclock the CPU/RAM but mobo didn't take any notice (There's obviously more options I have to turn on to allow non-standard speeds - cbf so gave up).

Temp has never been an issue with Gfx or CPU.

So I uninstalled Catalyst 12.3; installed 12.4 (Windows started BSOD'ing after I logged in) - booted to log in screen and remote desktoped in from my other PC and uninstalled 12.4, rebooted, installed 12.4 again - seems stable now.

Just had a shot at RAGE - FPS was suffering, got to a point that I could hardly play it any more so I have up on that and started Crysis2 again, Resumed Campaign and it crashed (no BSOD this time) - but windows reported that I was out of memory!?!?

Since when do games require 8GB+ of RAM? - But, perhaps it's because I play in 2560x1440...

Anyway, another 6GB kit on it's way - we'll see how that goes.
